Today MFM honors gender bending...legendary Mexican singer Chavela Vargas...who died Sunday in Cuernavaca...at a ripe 93.
Vargas was a hard drinking, cigar smoking ranchera singer...who dressed in men's clothes and carried a pistola while performing in bars and on stage in machismo Mexico.
She only gained fame in her 30's...but recorded 80 albums.
Vargas made her debut at Carnegie Hall...at age 83.
She said she loved famous artist Frida Kahlo...and was open about her lesbianism...but didn't publicly declare it until her autobiography was published.
