After Romania's top court upheld the 2-year jail sentence of ex-PM Adrian Nastase for corruption....he shot himself in the throat...while police served him with an arrest warrant.
Doctors say his condition is 'under control.'
Nastase, 62...was convicted of taking $2 million from the state budget in 2004...monies probably used to finance a presidential bid...that he lost to current President Traian Basecu.
Nastase is the most senior pol to be jailed since the fall of communism.
The EU still views corruption as the major roadblock to Romania and Bulgaria's bids to join the Schengen passport free zone.
