SPAIN: Thousands Demonstrate For Controversial Judge Baltasar Garzon.
GUARDIAN.UK/ Many thousands, including celebrities like film maker Pedro Almodovar, demonstrated in Madrid and other cities in support of controversial Judge Baltasar Garzon, recently indicted on abuse of power for investigating the killings and disappearances of civilians during Gen. Francisco Franco’s 1939-1975 dictatorship.The Madrid demonstration was the largest of all those held in some 20 Spanish cities. Supreme Court Judge LucianoVarela filed abuse of power charges claiming that Garzon neglected taking into account the Amnesty Law approved in Spain in 1977, two years after the dictator’s death.
