COLOMBIA: Environment Concern Over Proposed Cali Container Port .
LATIMES/ A proposal to build a deep water container port in Malaga Bay, frequented by humpback whales, is stirring environmentalists. The bay is the primary stop for whales on their journey from the Antarctic to Costa Rica. An estimated 1,000 humpback whales visit there annually. Malaga Bay appeals to business interests because a new deepwater port could handle 10,000 containers and would be the closest in the hemisphere to Asia and the Panama Canal.
