      A new kind of protest has become an internet “hit” in Brasil, promoted by the so-called “different people,”that encourages them to participate in a churrascão/big barbeque.
    In Sao Paulo, a barbeque to protest the killing of an upscale neighborhood development was organized on Facebook.
     In just two days...more than 55,000 people accepted the invitation.

MEXICO: Prank Turns Ordinary Man Into Dangerous Narco On Official Poster.

    A probable prank mistakenly identified an ordinary man as Fernando Sanchez Arellano, the leader of a dangerous Tijuana narco terrorist gang and a most-wanted criminal.
     The image of Raul Inda Gonzalez, 28, was posted on the Attorney General's official website.
    Apparently, Inda Gonzalez’s image was compiled from photos on his Facebook page and YouTube.
     When he learned of the mix-up, he feared for his life.
    “I had to hide because I was afraid they would capture me and I still have that fear,” he said, adding that he did not know who used his Facebook photos.
      He says he may sue the government.

MEXICO: 21 Jan. UPDATE: Facebook Helps Lead Police To Shooting Suspect ,Who Claims Cabanas Started And Deserved It.

    A post on Facebook by a Colombian model led police to the chief suspect in the 25 January shooting in Mexico City of the Paraguayan football star Salvador Cabanas (pictured right).
    Police knew that suspect, Jose Jorge Balderas Garza, aka El JJ", was dating beauty queen contestant Colombian Juliana Sossa (pictured left).
    So when Sossa listed a Mexico City neighborhood as her current address, officers moved in for the arrest.
   Cabanas survived but the bullet is still in his head and his career in soccer is all but over.

 LATEST DETAILS:  "El JJ,"  Jose Jorge Balderas Garza, the main suspect in the shooting says that Cabanas owed him an apology for attacking him. " El JJ" told Televisa that the soccer star was drunk, head-butted and kicked him in the restroom of the disco. “He should have apologized to me because he was the one who attacked me,” he said.

COLOMBIA: After 3 Deaths, Facebook Threats Frighten Town.

BBC/       Three deaths and many death threats posted on FACEBOOK against some 90 teens and young adults in the town of Puerto Asis have several families fleeing the area. The first hit list appeared after the 15 Aug murders of two of threatened young people. An official speculates that the threats are a strategy by drug traffickers to gain control of new territory.

BRASIL: Ring Used Web Social Network Sites To Locate Kidnap Victims.

AP/ KYIVPOST/    Police arrested nine young men who they say spent hours on internet social networking sites planning their crimes, looking for victims to kidnap. The men searched profiles for postings of expensive trips, luxury cars and big houses and looked up where potential victims worked and their favorite social hangouts.

MEXICO: 1ST UPDATE:Another Massacre: 18 Dead, At Least 18 Wounded At Torreon Birthday Party.

LATIMES/ LINK CHANGE / UPDATE with New Details/ 19 JULY/      Police say that gunmen arrived in the early morning at a restaurant party in Torreon in the state of Coahuila in several cars and opened fire without saying a word, killing 18 and critically wounding at least 18. An open invitation was posted on Facebook by a gay group for the birthday party at the Italia Inn in the northern Mexican city of Torreon.  More than 120 bullet casings were found at the scene.

Cubans are getting a better look at the world through Facebook.
"All my Cuban friends who have access to the Internet are now on Facebook," said one Cubana.
"The number of users in Cuba is growing fast. There are more every day, but they are not very active. They might just log on every other week or two," said a computer scientist who emigrated to the United States six years ago.

Whole Foods/John Mackey Controversy Heats Up.

Austin-based Whole Foods continues to garner unfavorable national attention--because of recent comments by its CEO John Mackey.

NPR, The Nightly Business Report on PBS and many newspapers and websites are reporting growing discontent over Mackey's WSJournal Op-Ed about "ObamaCare."
At least 16,000 unhappy consumers have added their names to a boycott Whole Foods page on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Mackey has had no comment to the boycott calls. He is reportedly hiking...hopefully not on the Appalachian Trail.
