HUNGARY: Thousands Protest Media Law.

  On the day marking the anniversary of the 1848-49 revolution and war of independence from Habsburg rule, thousands--perhaps 15,000 or more--of demonstrators in Budapest protested the controversial media law.
   Protestors are unhappy with recent amendments to the law to bring it into line with the EU.
  Adjustments set new limits over media based outside Hungary, redefined balanced coverage but do not eliminate registration of all media.
   Some claim the demonstration was the biggest civil protest since 1989.

POLAND: Warsaw, Budapest and Slovakia Brace For Flooding; Vistula, Oder, Danube Rising Again.

REUTERS/    Floods have plagued Poland since mid-May and are now overshadowing the 20 June presidential election as weather officials forecast more storms in southern Poland in the coming week. Many Poles are also angry that emergency aid has been delayed because of the upcoming election. Warsaw expects a new flood crest on the Vistula river while Budapest sandbagged against the Danube and Slovakia suffers its worst flood in centuries. Preliminary losses caused by the first wave of floodwater in Poland two weeks ago -  18 lives and 2.5 billion euros. PM Donald Tusk asserted that there was no need to declare a nationwide state of emergency caused by the flooding and  would be taken only with difficulties in evacuating the affected population.

Budapest Riot Police Gas Anti-Gay Parade Demonstrators.

Budapest riot police arrested more than 30 and used tear gas against about 500 demonstrators including neo-Nazis and skinheads trying to disrupt Hungary's annual Gay Pride parade in the city's Jewish district.
