LATIMES/ T.Wilkinson /
Today, Mexico City, aka the DF, with its concentration of federal police and military, is one of the safest places in Mexico.
In the past, many of its 20 million residents would flee the big dirty city at Easter for sandy resorts like nearby Acapulco.
No longer.
Polls show widespread fear of travel on state highways - 57% went on vacation last Holy Week but only 24% plan to do it this year.
The main reason is the narco wars...with their many dead bodies and kidnappings...on Acapulco's streets.
The highway from the DF to Acapulco is now called "the route of blood."
So...many Chilangos are staying home.
AND: 23 APRIL UPDATE: LINK CHANGE:
Police report the new total of bodies found in a Durango City residential area is now... 58.
Durango is under the control of the Sinaloa narcos.

Presidents Obama and Felipe Calderón agreed to continue the surveillance flights on 3 March in Washington.
