As widely predicted...PM Donald Tusk's Civic Platform party won 206 seats in the 460 seat parliament...with about 39% of the vote.
The conservative party...led by crusty nationalist Jaroslaw Kaczynski...admitted defeat after garnering only 30% of the vote.
Now...Tusk's task is for his government to achieve the EU's required 3% GDP deficit...after it soared to 7.9% in 2010...well off target...for the 3rd consecutive year.
Also as expected...the new Palikot Movement party received 10% of the vote...and 40 seats. If the president selects him, Tusk may be the first PM since 1989 to retain power.
"If the numbers hold, this is in my book a vote for continuity,” Tusk, 54, said. “I guess there is something to be said about being ‘boring’ in the case of Poland.”
