Desperate to move away from dependence on Russian nat gas, the Ukraine has signed a prelim pact with ExxonMobil to explore and develop shale gas deposits there.
No price was disclosed.
The Ukraine may have Europe's fourth-largest shale gas reserves at 42 trillion cubic feet (1.2 trillion cubic metres), trailing only Poland, France and Norway.
Last month, Ukraine was said to have signed a $800 mn shale gas deal with Shell.
