Poland hosted the first fundraiser for groups opposed to President Alexander Lukashenko and raised 87 million euros/$124 million usd from 36 donor nations.
The money will aid Belarusian NGOs, independent media, students and others.
"Perhaps the examples of Ben Ali, Mubarak and others will make President Lukashenko reflect that the path he has chosen is not the best one for himself personally," said Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski (pictured).
"Soon a jet plane will have to be kept on standby in Minsk," he added. "You are losing ... sooner or later you will have to flee your own country, your own people."
