U.S. immigration agent Jaime Zapata was murdered during a narco chase on the Pan American Highway in central Mexico. A second agent was shot in the arm and the leg and is in stable condition.
The two agents were driving to Mexico City from San Luis Potosi when they were chased by Zetas narcos and run off the road.
"When the agents identified themselves as American diplomats, the cartel members responded by opening fire on the officers," said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas).

Some are asking why the agents were traveling in a vehicle coveted by gangsters and without extra security.
U.S. law enforcement agents are not allowed to carry weapons in Mexico.

Agent Zapata joined ICE in 2006.
