Argentina/Uruguay: Environmentalists Suspend Blockade Of Finnish Paper Mill.
LAHT/ Argentine environmentalists suspended their nearly 4-year-old blockade of a bridge across the border into Uruguay for 60 days to encourage negotiations between the two governments to carry out an environmental study of a Finnish paper mill on their river border. The dispute began in 2005 with the start of construction of the paper mill when locals fearing that waste from the mill would pollute the river and virtually shut down cross-border freight traffic.
