TEXAS CONSUMER: What's The Reason For The High Cost Of Onions?
FRESH INFO/ Have you checked the price of onions lately? Almost $1.50 USD per pound! Even for common yellow variety. What's the deal? At a time when fresh strawberries, cauliflower and blackberries are dirt cheap, I couldn't find anything in Google news about Texas prices...but here's something from a Brit site about a global shortage. It claims increased consumption in Brasil, India and Russia has taken up a good deal of the usually plentiful, mainly Dutch supply from Europe while there was bad weather in Spain and South Africa. But haven't these emerging nations been using cebollas in their cooking forever? Besides, being close to Mexico has its benefits. Cheap veggies is one of them. So, what's going on with the onion crop?
