In heavy rains, an overloaded bus from Quito to Chone and San Isidro fell into a deep ravine near El Carmen when it apparently suffered a gearbox problem and the driver lost control of the vehicle.
At least 38 have died with 46 injured. Bus maximum capacity was 45 but it reportedly had 84 on board.
