PERU: Tribes May Form Party With Protest Leader As Presidential Candidate.
BBC/ Alberto Pizango, a protest leader and head of a 65 tribe coalition called Aidesep, announced that Amazon Indians may form their own political party with him as its presidential candidate. Alberto Pizango is a Shawi Indian who is charged with rebellion stemming from 2009 clashes over oil and gas exploration that killed 23 police officers and 10 civilians. The new party is to be known as the Alternative Alliance of Humanity and also intends to field congressional candidates.
