BRASIL: Petrobras Begins Pre-Salt Deep Water Production; Lula Hails Era Of Oil Independence.

MPRESS/     Petrobras has begun commercial production from a deep water deposit in the Baleia Franca field in the pre-salt region, 85 kilometers offshore. It was discovered in December 2008  in the Campos basin, where 90% of Brasil’s current proven reserves are located. The near-term production goal is 20,000 barrels per day of crude that is considered medium oil of high commercial value.
