VENEZUELA: Environmentalists' Ire Over Natives' Fires.
NYTIMES/ Despite a serious drought, the indigenous native people called the Pemón continue to burn grassland and forest in the Gran Sabana, a remote region the size of Ireland. They believe it stops the grasses from growing into larger fire hazards. Some forestry experts believe the fires risk denuding it and killing valuable species.
