MEXICO: In Monterrey... A Record 33 Murders...In 24 Hours.

In Monterrey, Mexico's northern industrial powerhouse, 33 people were killed...in just 24 hours...the most violent day in recent history.

Officials say most of murdered were linked to warring narco gangs.

But two victims were bodyguards for the state's governor, Rodrigo Medina. They were mutilated and had a gang message attached to their bodies.

MEXICO: Recent Rains Inflicted Serious Economic Damage.

GPOST/       Recent rains from Hurricane Alex and Tropical Storm Bonnie have devastated the economy. Officials believe the weeks of rainy weather could rival Mexico’s 1985 earthquake as the costliest disaster in the nation’s history. The governor of Nuevo Leon state has asked the federal government for $1 billion to reconstruct it. Nuevo Leon accounts for 8% of Mexico’s total economy — even though it has only 4% of the population.

MEXICO: Growing Confrontations Between Police And Military.

"This year alone, police and soldiers have confronted one another more than 65 times, The Associated Press has learned - a growing and dangerous trend in the war on drugs.
"The moment they( police) shoot at us, get in our way, use their guns to protect criminals, they become criminals themselves," said Gen. Guillermo Moreno, who commands troops in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas states along the Texas border.
