But Croatians hope he will be the top cop against corruption. Corruption, he says, "has started to be a way of living here in Croatia. It's very, very dangerous for our country, not only because they're stealing some money and property but because they are very influential in political life".

Exit polls in Croatia's presidential election run-off show left-winger Ivo Josipovic leading over challenger Milan Bandic, the mayor of Zagreb. Croatia's president has little power and the campaign has been focused on personality, rather than ideas. Social Democrat Josipovic is a classical music composer and doctor of law with an untarnished background but little charisma.
