Peru's government announced it will cancel a controversial mining concession after at least 6 protesters were killed...with at least 30 injured...while clashing with 100 riot police...as some 4,000 anti-mining demonstrators...many indigena Aymaras...attempted to occupy the Juliaca airport.
For weeks, protesters have been demanding the revocation of a silver mining concession granted to Canada-based Bear Creek Mining Corporation on Lake Titicaca...because of pollution fears.

Indigena protesters have sacked public buildings and set fire to vehicles in Puno.
For two weeks, the mostly Aymara indigena living on Lake Titicaca have been protesting proposed mining, oil, nat gas and hydroelectric developments there and blocking roads on the Bolivian border.
They want the government to cancel the license for Canadian firm...Bear Creek...at its Santa Ana mine.
Indigena fear lake contamination, hurting fishing and agriculture.
Out going President Alan Garcia claims the government cannot cancel the license.

BOLIVIA: 1ST UPDATE: Natives Lynch 4 Police Labelled "Thieves"; Official To Negotiate Bodies Return.
BBC/ 29 MAYO/ Five groups of Aymara and Quechua Indians in Potosi lynched four policemen whom they accused of extortion. The groups, known as the Warrior Clans, said they killed the four officers on Sunday. "Brothers, we did not kill police officers, we killed thieves disguised as police officers," one leader reportedly said. Government ombudsman Rolando Villena will travel to Potosi to convince the group to hand over the hidden officers' bodies who are refusing to release them until police investigate the deaths of four of their members.
