ITALY : 16 Oct. UPDATE: Roma's Day Of Rage...The Worst Violence In Years; 240 injured; At Least E2Million In Damage.

     The cost of Roma's worst vioelnce in decades is estimated at more than E2mn...as a demonstration of thousands...all part of a global 'day of rage' against bankers and politicos...turned violent with hundreds clashing with police...setting cars and even buildings on fire and breaking windows.

     Police responded with teargas and water cannons.
     At least 135 protesters were injured...along with at least 105 police.
     About 20 were arrested.
     Italy is suffering from high unemployment, slow growth, a huge national debt, political paralysis and new austerity measures.

     Controversial and disgraced PM Berlusconi recently barely survived a parliamentary confidence vote.
