A Guardian UK columnist believes that France's President Sarkozy should be honored with a statue for his leading role in supporting the Libyan freedom fighters.
But for Germany's ultra conservative Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle (above)..there is only mounting criticism about his reluctance to recognize NATO's pivotal role in the downfall of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
Instead Westerwelle insists...that it was Germany's sanctions against Tripoli that played the key role.
And that after...Westerwelle actually led Germany to decline a role in the military campaign...and also to abstain in the UN vote that authorized the mission.
Despite Westerwelle's bloated ego...Chancellor Angela Merkel is reportedly standing by him.
However, DER SPIEGEL's website claims Westerwelle is dead meat...with the headline "It's Over."
His own party...the FDP...is said to be embarrassed by his positions and reportedly wants him...ousted!
