Brasil is known best for its Carnaval celebrations in Rio and Salvador, Bahia...but carnivals are celebrated around the world... from Biche, Belgium to Oruro, Bolivia, Viareggio and Venice in Italy to Cologne, Germany. And, sort of, in Cuba.
But it can also be a way of life...as Cuban great Celia Cruz sings... in a fairly recent classic... "La Vida Es Un Carnaval"/"Life is a Carnival."
A suggestion: listen to Celia's wonderful rendition...while scrolling thru the Guardian's wonderful fotos and/or watching the Sao Paulo footage.

Riquelme (pictured) became famous for her passion...and nudity...while urging on Paraguay's national soccer team in the 2010 World Cup. She starred in Sao Paulo's Carnaval, parading in the Anhembi Sambodrome with the Unidos de Vila Maria samba school.
