Gen. Rene Sanabria, the former commander of Bolivia's anti-narcotics police force, is under arrest in Panama for drug trafficking.
Sanabria headed the anti-drug agency until 2009 and was still working there as an adviser.
He was immediately transferred to the US to face trial.
Bolivia along with Venezuela and Burma is on the US list of countries that fail to meet international counter narcotics obligations.
