BRASIL: Building The New "Highway To China."
GUARDIAN/ TOM PHILLIPS/ A little more than an hour north of Rio, near Sao Joao da Barra, Brasil is spending billions to build the Superporto do Acu, a 10-berth pier that by 2012 will handle cargo ships as big as the mammoth 380-meter wide ChinaMax – the largest vessel of its type, capable of ferrying 400,000 tonnes of cargo and help feed econovore China's enormous appetitie for iron ore, grains, soy and oil. The locals call it "the Highway to China."
