ECUADOR: No Amazon Oil Drilling Pledged... For $3.6 Billion.
GUARDIAN/ Under a new agreement with the UN, Ecuador is pledging NOT to drill for oil in Amazon's Yasuni reserve rainforest for at least 10 years... in return for $3.66 billion usd...about half of what it could make by selling oil. Experts believe that the oilfields beneath Yasuni hold an estimated 846 million barrels of crude, 20% of Ecuador's reserves.
