CUBA: Ends Subsidized Smokes... For Older Folks.
GUARDIAN/ Starting 1 Sept., the government will END monthly rations of four packs of subsidized cigarettes to around 2.5 million Cubans over the age of 54. Cuba sells unfiltered black tobacco cigarettes for as little as 7 pesos ($.35 usd) a pack at state stores, while the ration packs cost just 2 to 3 pesos. Retirees often sell their subsidized cigarettes for 5 pesos a pack.
