BOLIVIA: 3RD UPDATE: After 19 Days... Potosi Siege Ends.
NEW LINK/ BBC / UPDATE:17 AUG/ After 19 days, anti-government protesters ended their blockade of all road, rail and air links. The estimated 6,000 strikers in this city of 16,000 wanted increased regional investment, including construction of a new cement factory and a larger airport. The protesters said they felt Morales had not delivered on his campaign promises. Tourists from many countries were held captive. Now two mining companies, Coeur D'Alene and Glencore, will reopen after the protest brought their operations to a standstill. The government agreed to reopen a metal plant and build an international airport in the region.
