PERU: Native Leader Alberto Pizango Arrested On Return From Nicaragua.
GUARDIAN. U.K./ Native activist Alberto Pizango was arrested upon arrival from Nicaragua. He fled Peru 11 months ago after charges over violent protests in the Amazon against oil and gas exploration that killed 23 police officers and 10 civilians. Before leaving Nicaragua, where he had immunity, Pizango told media he decided to return because "I think that I have waited too long and will make this enormous sacrifice that has cost me and is costing me so much".
