BOLIVIA: Morales Calls General Strike "A Flop."
BBC/ A general labor strike aimed at forcing Morales to increase the 5% across-the-board pay hike announced May 1st was pronounced a "flop" by President Evo Morales's government. “There is no strike in this country, activities are normal. In some places, under pressure, they’ve been trying to paralyze or mobilize groups, but we believe that this has been completely overcome,” said spokeman Oscar Coca. But at least one has been reported killed, 16 arrested and scores injured, including police, since the strike began.
