MEXICO: Frenchman Says He was Tortured By Police.
LAHT/ A Frenchman held on kidnapping charges in Mexico since November complained of being tortured by Mexican police. “I’m innocent. They can sentence me to 60 years in jail for having denounced the torture I suffered,” Gilles Moreaux, 46, a businessman from Marseilles based in Mexico for eight years. “They taped my eyes shut and began to beat me for hours. They stripped me and threw freezing water on my body and threatened me with death. They put a cloth on my mouth and nose and began to pour water (on my face) until my lungs filled up. I thought I was drowning,” Moreaux said.
