CHILE: Businesses Fire 6,111 Employees Without Severance Using Quake As Excuse.
LAHT/ Some Chilean businesses used the historic earthquake to fire 6,111 employees without severance by invoking a "force majeure" provision in Chilean labor law. Labor Minister Camila Merino said "It’s bad that firms take advantage to dismiss workers, using this cause without paying severance,” adding that the Labor Ministry was working to prevent abuses of Article 159.
