ROMANIA: A German Connection Appeals to Voters.

NYTIMES/
Klaus Johannis is of German descent and the popular mayor of the Transylvanian city of Sibiu. Some of his popularity stems from the positive stereotypes Romanians have with the German population, known as Transylvanian Saxons, who have called the region home since the 12th century and are considered hard-working and uncompromising in a country full of mismanagement and corruption. Johannis has been touted as the possible prime minister by one of the leading presidential candidates, Mircea Geoana.
