Sixty-four-year-old Osvaldo Carci closed on his house at a Citibank branch in Buenos Aires, but while he was there at the bank a woman posing as an employee robbed him of the $65,000 from the transaction. Carci asked the buyers to close the deal in a bank branch in the capital’s Belgrano neighborhood to avoid having to carry around the money on the street.
After signing the papers, he went to stand in line to deposit the money in an account and he was accosted by a presumed employee who invited him to come to the “VIP room” reserved for special clients, where she gave him a form to fill out and asked for the cash so that she could count it. Then she disappeared.
