An AP reporter researching a story about the gangs that rule a Caracas slum...had an assault rifle pointed at his/her photog by a member of the La Piedrita/Little Stone... pandilla/gang.
The masked gangs are 'the law' in many slums...where police seldom enter.
And..the young thugs are also big Hugo Chavez supporters...and have frequently intimidated opponents.
Critics say the 300 armed gang members could prove dangerous in an election year...especially if Chavez loses.
