Obede Loyla Souza, 31, a landless peasant activist was murdered outside his home in Esperanca, Para.
He is the 5th victim this month...probably connected to conflicts over land and logging in the Amazon.
In January, Souza got into an argument with a logger over the illegal harvesting of protected Brazil nut trees.
"There is in this region a really dangerous group of loggers," said an official. "He had a fight with one of them over the cutting of these trees, and he was marked man from then on."
