A government health official reports that a current dengue epidemic is more severe than 2007, considered the worst in recent times...with 23 dead now versus 17 in 2007.
There have been over 7,000 confirmed cases of dengue with another 23,000 suspected cases, so far.
The official said that the situation is due to a new dengue virus, serotype 2 and because so many people are sensitive having been exposed previously.
