After today, many workers from 8 former communist bloc nations may be clamoring..."Hello Deutschland!"
Some German labor leaders predict at least 1 million Poles will take advantage of new immigration laws.
But will the Germans and Austrians respond: "Willkommen?"
One German worker said :"... there is nothing in this great EU to stop us all being shafted from a tidal wave of under-cutters. We are stoking the fires of social unrest if we just allow anyone in who is able to work"
Residents of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia-- that all joined the EU in 2004-- have mostly been precluded from working in Germany and Austria because Berlin and Wien postponed opening their labor markets to those workers.
Soon, they can work legally and openly.
Statistically there are enough jobs. Unemployment is just 7.9 per cent, the lowest in a decade.
What would you do if you could double or triple your wages in the red hot German manufacturing sector?
Duh!
