As some predicted, the nationalist True Finns party won 19% of the vote in Sunday's general election...finishing just behind the conservative NCP and the Social Democrats.
What it means is that the recent bailout of Portugal and future measures could be threatened since the True Finns and the conservative party oppose them.
With an attractive 3A credit rating, the Finnish government carries substantial weight in all EU bailout measures...that need unanimous approval.
A new euroskeptic government led by conservative Jyrki Katainen (pictured) as PM could veto Portugal's package and any future increases after 2013.
"Finland has always been a responsible problem solver, not causing problems," said Katainen.
"This is about a common European cause. After the elections, the biggest parties will begin to look for common ground."
True Finn leader Timo Soini ( pictured above) claims: "We are not extremists, so you can sleep safely."
