PM Boiko Borisov (pictured) wants 45 of Bulgaria's top diplomats, revealed to be former communist secret service agents, to be fired.
"Imagine these agents in Western European countries," said Borisov. "They once worked against them as ideological enemies and now they are representing our government there."
But President Georgi Purvanov has rejected Borisov's demand because he says he does not believe in "political purges."
