Amazon indigenas leader Alberto Pizango, 45, announced he will run in the April 2011 presidential election.
In June 2009, Pizango led a violent strike of indigenas in Bagua that resulted in 34 deaths, including 24 police officers.
He joins a crowded field of candidates.
