A bus loaded with commuters was crushed and shoved down the track by a train near the village of Marganets in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, killing 42 and injuring 9.
A spokeswoman said: "The driver of the bus broke traffic laws by driving through a red light before colliding with the train."
