Guatemala: U.S. Apologizes For Deliberate Sex Infections; Colom Calls Tests "Crimes Against Humanity."

   Guatemala's President Alvaro Colom calls recent revelations that more than 64 years ago U.S. scientists deliberately infected at least 700 mentally ill patients and prisoners - without their consent - with gonorrhea and syphilis to test penicillin --"crimes against humanity."
       The tests took place between 1946-48 with the permission of the Guatemalan government. The program was uncovered by Prof. Susan Reverby of Wellesley College.
