Guatemala's President Alvaro Colom calls recent revelations that more than 64 years ago U.S. scientists deliberately infected at least 700 mentally ill patients and prisoners - without their consent - with gonorrhea and syphilis to test penicillin --"crimes against humanity."
The tests took place between 1946-48 with the permission of the Guatemalan government. The program was uncovered by Prof. Susan Reverby of Wellesley College.
