NYTIMES/ STEVEN GREENHOUSE/ Nike will pay $1.54 million to help 1,800 workers who lost their jobs when two t-shirt subcontractors, Hugger and Vision Tex, suddenly closed their Honduran factories in January 2009. United Students Against Sweatshops protested at Niketown stores and Nike retailers with the slogan of “Just Pay It.” Several universities terminated or threatened to end their licensing agreements with Nike over the subcontractor dispute.
