COLOMBIA:1ST UPDATE: Mine Blast Kills 18; 53 Still Unaccounted For; Little Hope Seen For Survivors.

 
AP/LINK CHANGE/  18 June /  Officials confirm that 18 people are dead after a probable methane gas explosion in the San Fernando coal mine in Amaga, Antioquia. At least 53 workers remained unaccounted for a day and a half after the explosion and rescue efforts were moving slowly, impeded by the presence of dangerous gases. The accident may be the most deadly in Colombia since 1977, when 85 people there in a mine disaster.
