PERU: Oil Company Plans Threaten Reclusive Native Tribes.
REUTERS/ Human rights groups say that Peru is third with the highest concentration of tribes living in voluntary isolation after Brasil and New Guinea. Now the government has given Repsol Oil approval to build 279 miles of seismic lines and 152 heliports in the Amazon where many tribes avoid contact with outsiders. Peru has long denied the existence of untouched tribes and slow to protect areas for them.
