CUBA: Mass Confusion Reigns Over New Travel Insurance Requirements.
GUARDIAN/ Travelers arriving in Cuba on May 1st are required to have travel insurance to enter the country – but there is widespread confusion about which policies are valid. A copy of insurance documents must be presented on arrival showing a policy that covers the entire trip which includes medical evacuation by air. Travel expert Steve Diederich observed: "Clarification on who these approved insurers are, the cost of policies and the method of payment is proving notoriously difficult to come across. This is somewhat typical of Cuba. Much of what appeals about the country – it's old-fashioned air, its exotic chaos – can also frustrate at times." Travelers without insurance insurance must buy a policy from a Cuban insurance company for about $4 USD per day.
