An ethnic German born and raised in Romania, Herta Müller wrote about the harsh life under the Communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
Müller, a novelist and short story writer is virtually unknown in the U.S., but she was considered one of the top contenders for the Nobel, along with Israel's Amos Oz and Peru's Mario Vargas Llosa.
