Because of Strict LATIMES Paywall Limits...NO Hot Link is available.
Today...the LAT's Tracy Wilkinson reports on Mexico's still troubled tourist industry... and how last week's rapes of 6 Spanish women might affect it.
She reveals that ironically...Mexico's tourism minister was in Spain when the rapes occurred.
Wilkinson writes that there had been recent rapes and home invasions in that part of Acapulco...but little police follow-up.
A local official also tried to downplay the rapes.
Mexico has suffered a huge decline in USA tourism...and it is likely to continue because of the rapes...even with spring break ahead.
An American travel agent calls Mexico...'a very hard sell.'
