With new oil discoveries seemingly every week...and because it will host most Olympic events...massive renovations are underway...and real estate is hot and getting expensive.
But not everyone is profiting.
That's the contention of Marcelo Freixo...former school teacher and legislator...now fulltime underdog running hard vs incumbent Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Freixo even faces constant death threats from angry ex-police...and must travel surrounded by bodyguards...as he questions Rio's boom.
